This is an amazing personal account, a mini-documentary about California’s now desolate Salton Sea. Filmed, written, and directed by by Ransom Riggs. The Accidental Sea contains post-apocalyptic ruin, rusted cars, millions of bits of fish bones, decrepit buildings, ominous graffiti, salty pits, scattered belongings, and mars-like deserts. Filmed in HD and filled with beautiful wide-angle shots. I couldn’t help but think of the recent Hollywood and video game fascination with this type of environment. While 2012 is a major culprit, I am willing to bet this place was used as reference for numerous movies and games.
Truly an amazing watch. Great shots, music, direction, and narration.

Special thanks to Ben Chaykin for the original post informing me of this video.

My fav quote from it – “I go there for glimpses of what the world will look like without us.”
Mine is at the end, “There But for the Grace of God, go all of us.” Makes me think of Japan and Chernobyl. Haunting.
